Obverse: Fragment of a lunense marble mould half for 8 square
tokens, all with the same design: an anthropomorphic figure holding a
sceptre (?), with a container (modius?) between the legs (?). Central and
branch casting channels.
Description: Ostia, Insula delle delle Ierodule (also called Casa di Lucceia Primitiva: III, IX, 6). Stratigraphic excavation, 2003-4.
The mould was found in area 10 (a corridor) in a strata of abandonment (US 10 = US 53). Clay moulds and glass were also found,
suggesting perhaps some sort of artisinal work. Also found were two coins - RIC Philip 168 and RIC Gallienus 587.
