Token Specimens from the Ancient Mediterranean

A database of token specimens from the ancient Mediterranean, created as part of the Token Communities in the Ancient Mediterranean Project, which has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 678042. Tokens of Athens were further supported by the project 'Tokens and their Cultural Biography in Athens from the Classical Age to the End of Antiquity', a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action, and received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 794080-2. Tokens of Late Antiquity were supported by the project ‘The Creation of Tokens in Late Antiquity. Religious «tolerance» and «intolerance» in the Fourth and Fifth centuries AD’ and received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 840737. The database is made possible by stable numismatic identifiers and linked open data methodologies established by the Nomisma.org project. Numishare is a free, open source, modularized system of Tomcat applications for the web delivery of cultural heritage artifacts, with particular focus on coins and medals. Metadata are edited with XForms and delivered with Orbeon, eXist-db, and Apache Solr.
